Bids invited to prepare stadium land

The government has begun inviting bids for the clearance and preparation of the tract of land at Providence for the 2007 Cricket World Cup stadium.
In a newspaper advertisement, the Ministry of Public Works and Communication is inviting sealed bids from prospective contractors to begin work on clearing the East Bank Demerara site.
According to the advertisement, the work to be carried out comprises, clearing ratoons [sugarcane shoots] and levelling the beds.
The successful bidder would also be required to construct a bridge and culvert, along with an access road to the site while draining a canal as well as excavating soft material from the land, filling and compacting it with other material. All bids are due by May 4.
