The PNCR has alleged that Monday's fire at President's College was the result of neglect of the institution by the government.

The mid-morning fire ravaged the male dormitory of the college forcing suspension of classes at the institution. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire, but it was deemed to be electrical given that the school had experienced an electrical problem the night before.

Central Executive member of the PNCR, Basil Williams told a news conference yesterday that the significance of the institution to the PNCR is well known and the objective was to provide an opportunity for the country's most talented students to benefit from the best facilities for their advancement.

Williams noted that the college was the brainchild of the party's late founder leader LFS Burnham. According to Williams the PNCR has gone on record in the past calling on the government to support the school by injecting the necessary resources to ensure it fulfilled the dreams and aspirations of the students and parents who have been and are associated with it.

The party is now calling on the government to spare no expense to restore the school to its former glory as a matter of urgency.

It also urged that the students affected be properly accommodated and compensated for losses suffered.

In addition, the party said it hoped no negative consequences will follow for those students preparing to write examinations in a few weeks.
