To make light of the stressful times Guyana is going through, producer Richard Ousman along with Habeeb Khan, started the Habeeb Khan Comedy Hour last night on Channel Four at 9 pm.
At a press conference to launch the 'Stress Relief Comedy Hour,' as it is also known, Khan said, "the programme will be funny, entertaining and educational." He will host the live/call-in programme along with Henry Rodney and Lyndon 'Jumbie' Jones. Andrew Wiltshire is the technical advisor. Khan said he was privileged to be part of the production, and was happy to see that after all these years, the people still loved him and brought out the best in him. He also thought it was an appropriate time for such a venture and hoped that the business community and people in general would give their support and enjoy the programme.
Ousman indicated that some of the material would be pre-taped, but there would be a live segment and a call-in segment giving viewers the chance to express themselves at the end of each show. Viewers would also be asked to send in a joke that would be read on the programme. Insisting that the programme would be family-oriented, the team would shy away from political, religious and vulgar jokes. They felt it was time Guyanese be given some of their own talent on the television stations, as so many programmes were foreign. The show would also give aspiring artistes a chance to promote, establish and in some cases, remunerate themselves.
The producer hopes to produce recordings for sale in the near future.
The live call-in programme will be on Saturdays from 9 to 10 pm, with a replay on Sunday betwen 11 and 12 am, and another live show on Sunday from 4 to 5 pm on Channel Four.
