`Vicious' Vivian Harris's fight to have his rightful place on international television may be over soon, as his next bout is scheduled to be televised live on Showtime.
The World Boxing Association junior middleweight champion said yesterday that Showtime has given the nod to televising his next fight which should be held at the end of July.
"This fight will be staged in the USA. We don't know who my opponent is but it [the fight] will be on show time," the world champion said.
Since winning the WBA title in October 2002 Harris has struggled to get into the homes of international audience.
Harris's victory over Cuban Diobelys Hurtado which earned him the title was televised live. However, his first defence against Frenchman Souleyman M'Baye failed to make it on live TV.
The 25-year-old said he has taken a two-week hiatus from training and is now toying with the idea of returning home for a weekend visit.
"I'm thinking of returning home for two days this weekend but I have not made up my mind as yet. There is a possibility of me doing that then getting back to Florida to resume training," Harris said.
Meanwhile, the once-defeated Harris and compatriot Wayne `Big Truck' Braithwaite were honoured at a dinner held at the JRG Fashion Cafe on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn on Sunday.
Both Harris and Braithwaite successfully defended their world titles on April 17. Harris won against German Oktay Urkay in Berlin, while Braithwaite defeated Dominican Louis Azille at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
The dinner was organised by Seon Bristol of Briso's Promotion, JRG Fashion Cafe and the Guyana North Amer-ica Boxing Association and attracted a number of dignitaries including Senator John Sampson.
