Cabinet has received a status report from Minister of Education, Dr Henry Jeffrey on rebuilding efforts for the male dormitory of President's College (PC), destroyed by fire last month.
Government engineers have estimated that the dormitory would cost some $40-45M which according to Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon would be financed by the donor community.
According to a release from the Government Inform-ation Agency, Luncheon mentioned at his media briefing yesterday that the Ministry of Education is resorting to its standard design for the proposed new structure.
Luncheon said this would save time in starting the construction process, and the ministry would not have to go to tender to select a consultant for the design.
Luncheon said the commencement of the construction was dependent on the bid process and evaluation and the selection of a contractor.
The government is hoping to begin construction during the second quarter of this year or at least the third quarter. Luncheon said the Ministry of Finance has also been approached for its approval for selected tendering for a contracting firm.
He said these interventions are designed to fast-track implementation.
The fire was caused by an apparent electrical fault on April 26.
