Denmark yesterday cancelled a US$1M debt owed by the government.

Denmark's new Ambas-sador to Guyana Christian Konigsfeldt signed a Bilateral Implementing Agreement to write off the US$1.073M with Minister of Finance Saisnarine Kowlessar yesterday, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.

The debt and interest relates to sums owed up to the end of last year and was cancelled as part of the Cologne terms between the government and Paris Club creditors signed in France last year.

To date, Denmark has provided Guyana with US$4.3 M in debt write-off.

Ambassador Konigsfeldt noted that consideration was given to Guyana meeting its Completion Point under the Enhanced Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative (E-HIPC).

Prime Minister Sam Hinds had accepted Konigsfeldt's Letters of Credence in the Credentials Room, Office of the President, earlier yesterday.
