Women's International Box-ing Association (WIBA) light heavyweight champion Gwendolyn `The Stealth Bomber' O'Neil will be back in flight later this month when she engages in her first fight since becoming a world champion.
`The Stealth Bomber' will fire ballistic projectiles at Trinidadian Crystal Lassie on June 26 in front of an expected sell-out crowd at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The card is being jointly promoted by Smart Touch and Freeman Promotions. Head of Smart Touch Dillon Carew, a former national junior welterweight champion, said that the card will have a number of Guyana's top fighters on show.
Undefeated junior lightweight `Hurricane' Hugo Lewis clashes with Barbadian Selwyn Marshall in a 10-rounder, while junior middleweight Shawn Garnett is down to face St Lucian Benjamin Modeste in another supporting bout.
Carew said that Shelly `The Agricola Boom' Gibson is Set to make a return to the ring on the card. An opponent for `The Boom' is yet to be named.
O'Neil won the WIBA title and snatched the hearts of Guyanese following a classic display against American Kathy Rivers at the National Park just over a week ago.
In defeating Rivers, O'Neil became the first Guyanese to win a world title at home. The upcoming fight is being viewed as a warm-up for an October ring date against Jacqui Frazier-Lyde.
The 30-year-old Lewis came off a 16-month lay-off to win the vacant Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) junior lightweight title in April when he knocked out John Trotman in the first round.
