West Indies Vice-Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan wrote his name in the history books on Sunday when he passed Rohan Kanhai's 256 to register the highest score by a Guyanese in a test match. Sarwan was on 261 when Captain Brian Lara declared after his partner Shi

Ullanda Wiltshire - Private Sector employer: 'I think that the West Indies team had enough time for Sarwan to bat out, even to make his triple century. Winning the match is important, but so is to reach a milestone. It not only betters the player but the entire team. To me Lara appears selfish, it seems as though he alone wants to be the star.'

NR Herbuhadur - Gardener: 'Me and my entire family were annoyed with Lara's decision to declare. The team had three full days. He should have allowed Sarwan to bat out, it was unreasonable. Lara is a world class batsman, but a terrible captain and sportsman. I feel that Lara should resign from the captaincy. Sarwan, though, needs some more time for grooming, during that time Jacobs or Chanderpaul should take over the captaincy.'

Roxanne Fraser - Nurse: 'Lara should have given the boy a chance. There was time enough for him to bowl out Bangladesh, they are not the Australians or the South Africans. Sarwan, though, was wonderful. He should be honoured and a street should be named after him. In relation to the captaincy, I don't think that Lara should give up right away, he should however work with Sarwan to build him for the future of West Indies Cricket and allow Sarwan to grow. Sarwan should lead the Windies when they head to England later this month. Our cricket is just not based on the captaincy, the players not just the captain should pull their socks up. West Indies needs to take their cricket seriously.'

Hemant Keswani - Store Manager: 'If Lara wanted to declare he should have done so before. Once he allowed Sarwan to reach that score he should have allowed him to reach his 300. Two days are good enough to bowl out Bangladesh they are not as exciting as Australia. When Lara made his 400 he took his time, he should have given Sarwan a chance. In relation to the captaincy Lara should not resign, but he should give Sarwan more chances to captain the side.'

Kethasmin C. Persaud - UG student: 'I think that Lara is a very jealous and selfish man. To me, he should have given Sarwan a chance to bat on at least to reach 300. He is a good captain. Not everybody is perfect, but personally he needs counselling.'
