THE two female cricket teams in Georgetown are set to battle in a five-match limited-over series from next Saturday.

Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) vice-president, Neil Barry, revealed at Thursday’s launching at the Thomas Lands club, that MSC and Police Sports Club would battle for a trophy donated by Trophy Stall of Bourda Market. Prizes will also be at stake for the Player-of-the-Match in every game; best batter, best bowler, best wicketkeeper and best fielder.

The 40-over matches are scheduled for the Malteenoes, Police and YMCA grounds with players using the white ball and coloured clothing under the rules of the West Indies Women Cricket Federation.

Tournament coordinator is former national women team coach Kenalyn Baker and the sponsors include Trophy Stall, Louis Lowe, Aaron Fraser, Clyde Butts and Johnny’s Jewellery Establishment.

Meanwhile, the MSC is getting ready to launch their 15/15 competition for teams in Georgetown. According to Barry, the tournament begins on Friday using the rules of the 20/20 competition, but with the red ball. Players would wear their club’s colours as trousers along with a white top.

All matches will be played at Malteenoes from 15:30 hrs on Fridays. (Donovan Matthews)
