The Guyana Book Foundation (GBF) has announced the publication of the second edition of Kofi Baadu, out of Africa, a children's book written by Dr Walter Rodney, late renowned historian and political leader.
The GBF said this book was the first in a series of five children's books which Rodney had planned to write, tracing the origins of the five ethnic groups that migrated forcibly or otherwise to Guyana. He had also intended to write separately the story of the indigenous peoples of Guyana.
He was able to complete Kofi Baadu, out of Africa and the manuscript for Lakshmi, out of India, before he was killed on June 13, 1980.
The second edition of Kofi Baadu, out of Africa is a re-edited version of the first, packed with notes with new information and colour pictures and edited with the aim of making the information easier for the young reader to access. It also has extensive lists of reading material by or on Rodney and on Africa, designed as a resource for readers of all ages.
This edition is now being offered to the public, especially schoolchildren, by the GBF, with support from the Canadian Organisation for Development through Education (CODE, a Canadian NGO partner of GDF) and CIDA.
This book which has been re-edited by Andaiye and published by GBF with the kind permission of Dr Patricia Rodney, is available at the publishers at 56 New Garden and Anira streets, Queenstown, the release added.
