The Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding Federation (GABBF), fresh from the successful staging of its national bodybuilding championships, is in receipt of a sizeable cash donation from the National Sports Commission (NSC) as it prepares to undertake its biggest venture yet - the staging of the Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding championships in October.
According to a press release, the NSC has plumped some $500,000 into the GABBF's coffers and plans to make a few more similar donations over the next three months.
"This is the first of similar gestures the commission intends to make to the GABBF for the Central American and Caribbean championships over the next three months," Director of Sport Neil Kumar stated.
Kumar, who commended president of the GABBF, Yale Holder, and his committee for their "advanced planning of the event," also declared that the "GABBF is the kind of organisation the NSC is interested in, one that vigorously pursues its goals."
Holder thanked Kumar for "galvanising the support of the NSC for the event," adding that the two organisations will continue to work together over the next few months.
Guyana's team for the CAC championships, which will be held from October 1-3 at the National Cultural Centre, will be led by USA's Mr Musclemania 2004 Hugh Ross and Sylvon Gardner and Delia Bruney-Dutt, Mr and Ms Guyana 2004 respectively.
