Owner of Auto Supplies Company Limited(ASCO), Brian James is pondering how his Hadfield Street property could fit into the City Council's plan for the Stabroek market area.

Proposals to develop the area were submitted by Mukul Gupta, an Indian town-planning expert with support from a government team.

James says when he obtains copies of the plan he will be looking to see what possibilities exist before he rebuilds.

On November 13, 2003 fire destroyed the ASCO complex along with Mohamed's Enterprise and Royal Castle.

James suggests there may be need for a shopping mall/office space or other services which he could accommodate when rebuilding.

For now, James is yet to receive his insurance money while both Royal Castle and Mohamed's Enterprise were given close to 100% of their claims.

Auto Supplies is operating from James' residence at 306 Peter Rose Street, Queenstown and still conducts servicing of used vehicles and refrigerators.

James is going ahead with plans to clear the debris from the property by the end of this year.

The Gupta plan includes measures to restore the Stabroek area east of the market as a cultural square, to offer short-term paid public parking and to use the Stelling View area as a terminal for public transportation.

Special attention will be given to traffic flows along Water and Croal Streets. The authorities will also look at possibly relocating the Guyana Fire Service and the Ministry of Human Services.
