Two of Guyana's most outstanding cricketers who were both captains of the West Indies cricket team in past years have been invited by Sports Minister Gail Teixeira to be ambassadors for Guyana's participation in hosting the 2007 World Cup cricket.
The letters of invitation were sent to former W.I. skipper Clive Lloyd who resides in Britain and Rohan Kanhai, another W.I. captain who also resides there.
This disclosure was made by Norman McLean on the Demico House-sponsored weekly interview programme, One On One which is broadcast on NCN every Sunday night at seven o'clock and rebroadcast the following Tuesday at 5:05 pm.
McLean who has been a cricket administrator at the local, regional, and international level is a member of the broad-based committee selected by the Sports minister to plan for Guyana's participation in the upcoming World Cup series, and he was presented with Guyana's `Green Package', paving the way for this country's hosting of six of the matches.
The presentation ceremony took place earlier this month in Jamaica.
In the interview McLean spoke about the two other sites which were considered but lost out to the one on the East Bank of Demerara.
It has been confirmed that Lloyd had accepted the minister's invitation. (Cecil Griffith)
