Parliament's Committee of Selection has nominated nine members to sit on the Special Select Committee that will review and implement the recommendations of the Disciplined Forces Commission.
The Committee of Selection met two weeks ago and nominated five members from the ruling PPP/C and the remainder from the main opposition PNCR. Representatives of the PNCR were not present at the meeting, as the party maintained its policy of selective parliamentary participation.
Nominated from the PPP/C are: Attorney General Doodnauth Singh, acting Home Affairs Minister Gail Teixeira, Local Government Minister Clinton Collymore and Parliamentarians Feroze Mohamed and Bernard De Santos.
The members nominated from the PNCR are: attorneys Raphael Trotman, Clarissa Riehl, Debra Backer and Basil Williams.
Parliament has unanimously adopted the reports and recommendations of the Disciplined Forces Commission, which has made 164 proposals for the forces.
