Police are working behind the scenes to "clean out the Buxton area of the remaining criminal elements", a senior police officer said yesterday while confirming a report of a man who was chased down a road by an armed gunman.

The officer said the incident occurred on Sunday, and according to the report the assailant was armed with a handgun and has been identified. He is said to be one of the persons involved in the August Monday shooting of Gregory Adams at the Buxton/Friendship community centre.

According to the police officer, the police have not been sitting around doing nothing in relation to the troubled village, but he also admitted that there are some gang members still operating there. Most of these are very young men who are arming themselves with guns and committing crimes.

The police have conducted several searches in the villages and numerous areas are under constant surveillance.

"It is just a matter of time; no one is longer than the arm of the law, and it will happen one day, one time. If their own gang members do not kill them, we would be able to arrest them..." the officer said.
