Carollers representing three of the four Christian churches in Herstelling on Wednesday night meandered their way through the East Bank Demerara village, setting the place ablaze with their Christmas carols.

One large truck with children from the Assemblies of God Church portraying the manger scene led the procession off from the Church of the Nazarene, which is located in Church Street once dubbed the Rum Shop Street.

The music-carrying Canter Truck followed this, with lead singers from the three participating churches including Restoration Temple of the Herstelling Wesleyan Church. Young people dressed as shepherds walked behind the musical vehicle as they sneaked their way through the five main streets and cross streets.

A spokesperson for the group of churches said that in times past individual churches sang carols on a house-to-house basis, paying particular attention to the houses where their members or followers reside. The joint carolling of 2004 was designed to impact firmly on the minds of residents, to give them a sense of entertainment and to display that the church was one under the Christ of the season.
