Georgetown chamber honours firms, individuals

THE Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has awarded several individuals and businesses for their outstanding service, dedication and commitment to the Guyanese people over the years.
The awards were handed out to the deserving recipients in front of a large gathering of business executives at a dinner and awards ceremony the GCCI hosted at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel in Georgetown Monday.
Mr. Clinton Urling of German’s Restaurant received the Presidential award at the ceremony. This was in recognition of the company’s outstanding efforts in displaying the social responsibilities of businesses in a society and by performing business in development-oriented business practices.
Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Mr. Manniram Prashad received the GCCI President’s award in recognition of his outstanding service to the GCCI and the wider private sector of Guyana over recent years, and for being the first private sector leader to be appointed a Minister of Government.
Mr. Chandradat Chintamani of Demerara Tobacco Company Limited received an award in recognition of the company’s long and outstanding membership since 1944 with the GCCI, and for the company’s commitment and dedication to the chamber.
Mrs. Zaida Joaquin of Hand-in-Hand Mutual and Fire Insurance Companies received an award in recognition of the company’s long and outstanding membership since 1944 with the GCCI, and for the company’s commitment and dedication to the chamber.
Mr. Bonny Singh of Hardware Depot received an award in recognition of the company’s pioneering efforts in the development of the hardware industry in Guyana.
Mr. Christopher Ram of Ram & McRae received an award in recognition of the company’s pioneering efforts in the development of the Accounting and Auditing sector and for the company’s extensive work on Value Added Tax (VAT) in Guyana which is complemented by the company’s handbook on VAT and Excise Tax.
Mr. Rajeshwar Ramrattan of RRT Enterprise received an award in recognition of the company’s pioneering efforts in the development of the automotive services sector in Guyana.
Mrs. Karen Bacchus-Hinds of New Era Business Enterprise received an award in recognition of the company’s pioneering efforts in developing the education sector and for performing businesses with a social responsibility.
Mr. Gregory Lewis of Waterchris Hotel, Restaurant and Bar, also received an award in recognition of that company’s pioneering efforts in developing the hospitality sector in Guyana and for its remarkable service in airline catering and creole restaurant.
The GCCI, established in 1889, has been awarding outstanding businesses and businessmen over the years at its annual dinner awards ceremony usually held around this time of the year.
