Fogarty's Annual Santa Parade brought with it lots of fun and excitement for children and adults alike when it took to the streets yesterday.
The procession was very colourful and saw the participation of hundreds of students from schools in Georgetown , among them St. Andrews Primary School , Central High School , Bishop's High School, Richard Ishmael Secondary School , St. Joseph 's High School, St. Margaret's Primary School, and St. Gabriel's Primary.
There was also active participation by the Scouts, the Girl Guides and the President Youth Award Republic of Guyana (PYARG).
There was no shortage of onlookers as people came out in large numbers to support the parade and to interact with Santa Claus as he passed by on a white carriage decorated by colourful balloons, followed by the rest of the procession.
One girl who was there with her mother kept shouting, ‘I love Christmas, I love Christmas' as the parade passed by.
Another boy used the opportunity to scream out his Christmas list to Santa as he passed him. He too said that he loves the parade and hopes that Santa will bring for him, everything on his Christmas list.
The parade began at Le Meridien Pegasus Car Park and proceeded along Main Street , then to Fogarty's building, Water Street , where children were given the opportunity to meet and greet Santa and also to have their pictures taken as they sat on his lap and accepted their presents.
The parade was re-introduced in 1993 and since then, it has become a tradition for persons to take their children to witness the once a year event that implants wonderful memories in the mind and heart of a child.
