The Matt's Record Bar Retro show was a well-thought-out one in the way promoters played the famous GCC cricket pitch to create an ambience for patrons.
The promoters placed tables and chairs strategically around the bar and dance floor opposite the two walls of speakers on the southern end of the pitch making use of the pavilion lights. However, the event itself was as hot as one could expect a pre-Baby Cham affair on Saturday night to be.
Turnout resembled this year's election as a significant number of Guyana's party circuit goers chose to stay away from the event. Nevertheless for those who turned up it was an affair to enjoy.
As mentioned before the strategic arrangements allowed for patrons to gaff and talk without having to shout in each other's ears. There was a bit of mic trouble early on but this was sorted out and did not stop those who went to dance from dancing.
DJ Brian Smallz took the controls early and 'niced' the place up with some, as expected, hot 80s tracks. Then DJ Rocky Carew took over and kept the groove tunes rolling out and the dance floor clogged as he got more into the 70s.
Fans of retro sounds who missed it are unfortunate because they are probably going to have to wait a while before a nice little smoothie like the one on Saturday comes around again. basstone@lycos.com
