Chief Executive Officer of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Karan Singh said yesterday that he was confident that the country, especially the Providence Stadium would be ready for next year's World Cup competition which is a mere 96 days away.
Singh, who returned on Sunday from Trinidad where he led a Guyana LOC team to a Venue Operations Integra-tion meeting involving Guyana, St Lucia and host Trinidad and Tobago said...."having just come back from this tour and having seen what is taking place in Trinidad I feel more confident in Guyana's preparedness generally."
He added:"I have no doubt whatsoever that we are on stream."
Singh, Jainarayan Singh - Event Manager; Richard Hanif - Public Relations/ Marketing Manager; Sabrina Panday - Volunteer Coordinator; Nikolaus Oudkerk- Visitor Experience/Accommodation Project Officer; Clyde Duncan - Cricket Operations Manager; Malcolm Williams - ICT Manager, Paul Slowe - Local Security Directorate and Fawwaz Baksh- Transporta-tion Manager ,were the members of the LOC team which participated in the ICC CWC 2007 Integration Workshop at the Queen's Park Oval over the week-end.
The meeting was coordinated by the CWC Event Management Department, and according to a release from the LOC, "Its focus was on venue operations integration to streamline preparations of all CWC/LOC functional areas for this mega event in 2007."
Karan Singh said the workshop involved presentations and Table Top Sessions in
Security Management, Event Management, Volunteer Programme, Media Manage-ment, Spectator Experience, VIP & Protocol, Medical facilities, Cricket Operations and Transport.
He informed the media that the CWC Event Management department and the ICC CWC 2007 Security Directorate were pleased with the level of planning done by the Guyana LOC and the officials were very confident that the Guyana
LOC would fulfil all the requirements stipulated for the successful hosting of ICC CWC 2007.
Phase Two of the CWC/LOC Integration Workshop is scheduled for January 15 and 16, 2007 in Guyana where the LOC and CWC will conduct further workshops and simulation exercises at the Providence Stadium in preparation for the Super 8 Leg of ICC CWC 2007 in March/April 2007, the release stated.
Meanwhile Singh, reacting to a question about the pitch at Providence Stadium said that the visit last week by officials revealed a higher moisture content this time around than at the previous visit.
Singh said that was a result of the pitch not being properly protected from the rains. He said that all the necessary equipment were now in the country and maintenance of the pitch would now be enhanced.
He also said that the problem with the alignment of the pitches at the stadium had been resolved. The Venue Assessment Team had found on their November 16 visit that the camera-ready pitches had not been correctly set out.
