Technical Director of the Guyana national football squad, Jamaal Shabazz with sponsorship from the Kashif and Shanghai organization yesterday held an injury prevention and nutrition workshop for the squad at the Waterchris Hotel.
Shabazz told Stabroek Sport in a telephone interview that the workshop was a useful one because the type of information that was imparted to the squad many times only reached the administrators of the sport. "This direct interaction with players gives them the opportunity to take personal responsibility for their personal health and fitness", he said.
Dave Issac, a physiotherapist from Trinidad and Tobago, was one of the facilitators at the workshop and collected data on previous and current injuries of the players, which will be passed on to local physiotherapist Paula Alexander who Shabazz said has volunteered to work with the team.
The players also benefited from a lecture on low cost nutrition from head of the Food and Policy Division of the Ministry of Health Norma Howard. She, also according to Shabazz has volunteered her services to the team. The most recent FIFA video on injury prevention techniques was shown at the workshop and each player was provided with a copy of the tape to take home.
