THREE companies have been confirmed as key co-sponsors of this year’s Mashramani celebrations and are supporting the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport to make the event larger, the Government Information Agency (GINA) has reported.

It said Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) and Ansa McAl have agreed an $18M sponsorship package with the National Mashramani Commitee.

As a result, the ‘Soca’ beverage produced by DDL is now the official soft drink for Mashramani 2007, the agency said.

GINA said that company has been supporting Mash for more than four years and DDL Assistant Manager, Ms. Sharda Veeren-Chand remarked that they are proud to again be associated with the celebration.

She said Soca music is one of the popular art forms for Mashramani and the soft drinks “are fast becoming an inextricable part of Mash.”

Veeren-Chand said DDL takes pride in its association with local culture and talent which is largely demonstrated during Mashramani.

She said she is impressed with the high level of creativity that has developed competitively in the calendar of different events.

GT&T, a partner in Mash for more than three years, will send representatives to join the bands on Mash Day and Ansa McAl, apart from sponsoring the Carib Soca Monarch Competition, which it has been doing in the past, intends to add to Mash the same excitement it has taken to other Caribbean events, GINA said.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony told the agency private sector support is a welcome feature and his ministry will celebrate Mash in all 10 of Guyana’s administrative regions, with the significant backing of the three co-sponsors.
