THE Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) will tomorrow embark on a programme to clean up the city for Cricket World Cup (CWC).
However, the administration is hoping that the initiative is sustained after the mega event.
To achieve its objective, the M&CC on Friday met people living in and business owners operating out of Lacytown to share ideas and plan the clean-up exercise.
Lacytown is the first area being targeted in the campaign.
Mayor Hamilton Green told those who turned up that the involvement and cooperation of all is needed if the programme is to be successful.
is an attempt to develop a new culture in so far as our treatment of our city is concerned,” Green said of the initiative.
He urged business representatives to desist from paying `junkies’ to dispose of their garbage because it is never properly done since these persons are only looking for the “small change”.
He encouraged representatives of schools present to speak to the children daily about the need for proper garbage disposal.
The Mayor warned that constables will be patrolling the streets regularly and persons caught littering will be placed before the courts.
