AFTER six months of tireless work, Toolsie Persaud Limited will be opening a spanking $60M Hardware Store on Lombard Street on Mashramani Day, February 23.
Hardware Manager Mr Mohan Harnanan told this newspaper that the expansion will ensure better business and make shopping easier for customers.
He said the Mash Day opening is nationalistic.
According to Harnanan, the company is trying to attract customers by making shopping comfortable and this will result in increased sales, growth in business and satisfaction to customers and staff.
He said that decision was taken to open the new outlet because of limited space to display products at other locations. “We have been cramped for space; we look at opening a store with improved conditions to create comfort for business.”
He said some 30 persons will be employed, and those from the Lombard Street area will be given the first opportunity. “Once they have the knack and ability, we can assist in some form to better their qualifications,” Persaud said of the persons they intend to hire.
According to Harnanan, Toolsie Persaud decided to hire persons from the neighbourhood because the business originated there. “This is the home of Toolsie Persaud, this is where the business was born. I think that it is only right for us to continue to grow and develop the area.”
The manager said that the store faces an obstacle in vendors occupying the pavement next to store and this is disruptive to business. He told this newspaper that a report was made to the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) but no action was taken.
&The people are seen building better shacks, making more accommodation and strengthening their claim to the pavement. It would be an eye sore for Cricket World Cup (CWC),” he stressed.
According to Harnanan, the company will also be looking to upgrade the parking facilities and security, following a spate of robberies last year. ??spite all those robberies, we are still fighting and moving forward,” he said.
In addition to their traditional hardware products, customers can also expect other items such as washing machines and kitchen utensils, Harnanan said.
