DIRECTOR of Go-Invest, Geoffrey Da Silva, says that to date, no licence has been granted by the government for casino gambling at Buddy’s International Hotel.
The Government Information Agency (GINA) yesterday said he made the statement in response to an article in the Sunday Stabroek which stated that according to a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Guyana and the investor, a commitment was made for the granting of a licence to for casino gambling.
According to the agency, Da Silva said the article is misleading, since the State’s obligation was to facilitate a request by the investor to apply for a licence to conduct casino gambling.
This, he said, does not translate to a commitment on the part of the government, for such a licence to be granted. Such a decision, he said, must fall within the laws of Guyana, GINA reported.
Da Silva said a press conference will be held shortly to address this issue and to raise concern regarding Stabroek News’ “irresponsible and misleading reporting” of this situation.
