A NEW hotel opened in the city Saturday evening, offering more rooms for the thousands of visitors expected in the country for the Super Eight round of Cricket World Cup 2007 from March 28.

Ocean Spray, on Vlissengen Road, overlooking the Atlantic, was built by Guyanese businessman Shameer Mohamed of Mohamed’s Cambio on Regent Street and Chester Fried fast food.

The hotel has 24 self-contained rooms, Mohamed said, adding that he worked hard on making the establishment outstanding, with a “touch of class.” The rooms are fully air-conditioned, he noted, and offers wireless internet access.

He said the hotel was built amidst the rush for Guyana to get rooms to accommodate visitors for the cricket tournament.

Mohamed thanked the Chief Executive of the Guyana Office for Investment, Mr. Geoffery DaSilva and the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manzoor Nadir, for their support to the project.

Minister of Labour Mr. Manzoor Nadir, former Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, also spoke at the opening ceremony Saturday.
