Late Saturday night, following the fatal shooting incident at the Esplanade ground in New Amsterdam , organisers of the Carib Soca Monarch decided that all 15 semi-finalists would contest the finals. Four were to be eliminated at the semis.

Prior to the decision, Lindener Lois Mosley's “Don't lie down so” was again well received by the gathering as was the case in her home town. Wilbur ‘Littleman' Levans and Orlando ‘Bones' Johashen were also favourites after they dished out ‘One for the road' and ‘Hands up' respectively.

Two Saturdays ago, Mosley's rendition, the X-Factors ‘Don't get in trouble' and Sweet Kendingo's ‘Grandpa Trailer coming', were most outstanding.

But this time around though Sweet Kendingo made his way from the Calypso semi finals in Linden to the Soca Monarch semis in Berbice, the Berbicians never got a chance to see him perform, neither did they experience Passion's ‘Survivor', because of the shooting incident.

But all is not lost as the duo will join the others at the National Park this Sunday.

Their competition also includes Passa Passa champions X-Factor who will again encourage all to ‘Don't get in trouble', Marlon ‘Mallo' Webster with his ‘Give me it', Shelly G ‘Garraway's ‘Love is what we need' and veteran Calypsonian Lassel ‘Mighty' Duke's ‘Afraid'.

The shooting occurred seconds after Carlos ‘Lucky B' Williams' rendition of ‘RRed' which spoke of wiping out all the negative vibes in the land, including shootings and executions. Out of the Kross Kolor camp, Berbician Melissa ‘Vanilla' Roberts will again state that she is “Queen of the band”.

Jamal Gittens of ‘G-Money' offers an alternative to rag waving with his ‘Flashlight'. The youngest participant Ronella Woosley will declare that it's ‘Party time' while Nicole Osborne will attempt to share her ‘Soca Fever'.

The Monarch will take home $600,000 plus other incentives. (Mondale Smith)
