City schools reign supreme at Children's Mashramani Parade

The Children's Mashramani activities concluded Saturday at the National Park with a massive costume and float parade. Many of the schools and regional organisations will be rewarded with cash and trophies for their efforts.

However, while it was success story of colour, splendour, festivity and jubilation, a minor few shared the view that some entrants should have improved their act to have their costumes reflect the 2007 Mash theme ‘A Cultural Invasion in 2007'.

In last Saturday's competition South Road Nursery School copped the first prize in the Nursery Band category with a creation dubbed ‘ Cricket Glorious Cricket' , while Starters Nursery came second with ‘ The Busy Bees' . Kingston Nursery followed in tow with ‘ The Champion of the Jungle '. Coming in fourth was Headstart Nursery with ‘ Providence Invasion' .

In the Primary Band segment which saw keen competition, St. Angela's Primary took the top spot with ‘ Tourist Touchdown' , with Winfer Gardens Primary coming in a close second with, ‘Legends of Blue' . South Ruimveldt Park Primary's, ‘ The People Who Came' was third, followed by Tucville Primary's ‘ A Rainbow of Hope for Peace and Unity'.

The Sophia Special School invaded the National Park to win with their colourful entry of ‘ A Cultural Invasion in 2007' . President's College with, ‘ In Harmony with Nature' took second place, while David Rose Community High School 's, ‘ Colourful Invasion ' placed third. Fourth spot was awarded to New Campbellville Secondary with ‘ A Cultural Invasion'.

Since Saturday's competition is was obvious that the Hinterland Scholarship organisation was a sure winner in the ‘Other Children's Organisation' segment.

They took the crown with their version of ‘ A Cultural Invasion in 2007' , with the National School of Dance was hot on their heels in second with ‘ Vision 2007 - Invaders, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly '. This institution entered the largest contingent.

Craft Production Unit took third place with ‘ Celebrating a Cultural Invasion with Craft and the Meche Meche Pot . Leslyn's Academy took fourth position for displaying, ‘ Mashing with VAT '.

Young Jamel Broomes' ‘ The Beauty of Green ' gained first place in the Individual Presentation segment. He was followed by Shamane Hutson with ‘ Queen of Kolours' , and Melissa King's ‘ Queen of Fire' .

Occupying the fourth spot was Mariella Bennette with ‘ Caged in a VAT' .

Region Four reigned supreme in the Regional Presentation segment displaying a truly magnificent, colour creation called, ‘ A Cultural Explosion in 2007' . Region Three settled for second with ‘ Exotic Arrival-Cultural Explosion' . In third spot was Region Seven's ‘Making Waves' with their costume and float display.

Occupying fourth position was Region Two's ‘ Uniting the Cultures' .
