LOC expresses readiness for Super 8 matches

The Local Organizing Committee for Cricket World Cup 2007 has disclosed the most recent developments at the Guyana National Stadium, highlighting its readiness for the upcoming Super 8 stage of CWC.

Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, Dr. Frank Anthony, said that the stadium, the LOC and the other participating entities are in their final stages of assessment. He added that almost all the critical aspects of the event and the venue have been addressed and Guyana is prepared.

With reference to security, the minister says that the local Police force will work together with the Guyana Defence Force in their effort to stabilize the and secure the venue and the country during the hosting of the mega event. He added that a private security firm has also been contracted to assist with the security on the stadium grounds.

Ticketing

There are still tickets available for all the matches slated for Guyana, except for the April 1 match, where only US$100 and tickets for the party stands are available. The sport minister urges fans not to wait for the last minute to start purchasing tickets.

Parking

Park and walk facilities are available, and the CBS transport company has been contracted to manage the parking facilities. Fans using these facilities will be required to pay $1000 GYD for the parking spot.

In addition, two park and ride facilities has been made available, these include the Diamond Community centre ground and the national cultural centre tarmac. Individuals will be able to join a bus from these places which will take them to the stadium.

Traffic

During match days the eastern carriage way of the newly constructed four lane road will be a dedicated lane to and from the stadium from 6:00 -11:00hrs and 15:00 – 20:00hrs respectively.

On the western side, the traffic will be 2-way and ‘No Parking' zones have been established from the Buddy's International Hotel to Queenfield during the hosting of the matches.

Bed and Breakfast

Dr. Frank Anthony highlighted that approximately 675 providers have registered their properties with the LOC, along with 229 registered rooms. To date over 100 rooms are already occupied.

Minister of Works, Robson Benn, has noted that the “we are basically finished”. The stadium, he said, is in its final stage, where works on critical parts of the venue is being conducted and is expected to be completed today.
