Ryan Benschop
Upscale Restaurant's resuscitated poetry night is usually interesting but on Tuesday night things got really exciting when little Ryan Benschop took to the microphone and performed a piece called, "I Got Women Trouble".
Young Benschop 'brought the house down'. Patrons were particularly impressed when the seven-year-old boy announced that he had written the poem himself with a little help from grandmother, Parvattie Persaud-Edwards.
It was not difficult to believe that Ryan wrote the piece because of how extensive his vocabulary is. When we sat down with him for a few minutes on Thursday he proudly revealed that he wrote his first poems at three years old.
"I like writing. That was not my first poem but it was the first time I read my poem in public and it felt good," Ryan said.
Though the audience enjoyed the poem many persons could not help comment on how sad it was to hear little Ryan say he wanted his father home. His father, Mark Benschop is currently in prison awaiting retrial on a treason charge.

I've got woman trouble
By Ryan Benschop
My mom is very pretty
My daddy is so STRONG
I want my daddy home with me
RIGHT where he belong
We need to do together
ALL the things men do
Play cricket and some soccer
And go hang out TOO
I live with TWO women
And I SURE do need a man
Cause being alone with only THEM
DEFIES description
Women are STRANGE creatures
VERY hard to understand
They are like boa constrictors
They LIKE to control man
My grandma calls me DOODOO
RIGHT in front my friends
MY mommy calls me BOOBOO
Embarrassment NEVER ends
They take me to the ladies
When I need the GENTS
I am NOT a girlie
MY plumbing is different
I have grown up now, you see
But even in the public
They kiss and cuddle me
And I end up with lipstick
They do not understand
And THAT'S why I need daddy
I am now a MAN
NOT a namby-pamby sissy
