Permanent Secretary within the Office of the President (OP), Dr. Nanda Kishore Gopaul has stated that Pandit Prakash Gossai has been appointed as Special Assistant to President Bharrat Jagdeo and not as an adviser to the President as the "Peeping Tom" article [Please note: link provided by LOSP website] misleadingly stated in Tuesday's edition of the Kaieteur News.
Dr. Gopaul, according to the Government Information Agency (GINA), said the President has a few special assistants. Gopaul explained that Pandit Gossai would perform multi-faceted duties due to his skills, experience and integrity and would therefore bring those qualities to bear at the OP.
"The report to put him as a Hindu religious leader, performing a religious role at OP can only be seen as mischievous aimed at creating misinformation," GINA reported the permanent secretary as saying.
"We'd hope that speculative and unnamed writers will attempt to ascertain the facts before giving title and job description to persons employed with the OP and government system," the permanent secretary added.
