GT Music Festival starts during CWC matches

The Sidewalk Café and the Prairie International Hotel are hosting the GT Music Festival to showcase Guyanese and Caribbean music over the period of the Cricket World Cup matches beginning today.
According to a press release the Festival will be the first of its kind in Guyana and is loosely based on the successful jazz festivals which have been held regionally. It will be hosted at the Sidewalk Café on Middle Street and at the Hotel's Coverden, East Bank Demerara location from Saturday at 12.30pm. The show at the Prairie hotel, with the Demerara River as the backdrop, will provide the perfect setting for this musical extravaganza.
The release said 22 performers which includes recent Trinidadian panorama winner Ken Philmore on pan, from Cuba Sabor Café, Len 'Boogsie' Sharp, recognised as the best pan player in the world, Jamaican reggae band Seretse and the True Democrats, Arturo Tappin and the Caribbean All Stars which includes Rhea, Ricky Braithwaite and Nicholas Brancker from Barbados and the region and Guyana's First Born. On April 7, the festival will close with the Guyana All Stars highlighting the best of local talent.
