Guyana’s leg of the super eight matches of the world’s third largest sporting event Cricket World Cup has come to an end and Head of State Bharrat Jagdeo is obviously satisfied with the country’s effort to successfully undertake the task.
“I am very satisfied, I think it was a big challenge when we started off. Many people thought we could not do it… we made it a national endeavour, it was not a government thing, we included the opposition,… we made it truly a Guyanese effort…we worked as a team, team Guyana and we did well,” the President told a Caribbean sports journalist after the conclusion of the match between Ireland and New Zealand yesterday.
The President said much effort and resources were put into preparing for the big matches, which many thought would be an impossible task for the country.
The Head of State has time and again noted with satisfaction the silencing of the critics, who continuously said it could not be done.
The games have come and gone, and according to President Jagdeo, he is pleased with the efforts of all. He thanked those who offered their time and services to making the event a success. This includes the 1350 volunteers whose efforts were saluted yesterday while they marched around the stadium led by the CWC mascot Melo.
