With Easter Monday colliding with Guyana 's last day of hosting the Super 8 stage of Cricket World Cup 2007, many Guyanese and tourists alike are somewhat uncertain as to where to spend their day.
Speaking with Kaieteur News, William Shields, an English tourist and cricket enthusiast, said that “the choice is tough, after observing the ‘Guyanese' way of celebrating the Easter holiday.”
He said that the abundance of kites in the skies is way beyond what he had expected and he has therefore chosen to skip the games for the day and enjoy ‘Easter' the Guyanese way.
Many Guyanese citizens were interested in spending the day the unconventional way by being in the Guyana National Stadium (GNS) at Providence .
Janice Stephenson, a single mother of three, told Kaieteur News that “the only thing preventing us from being at the stadium is the prices of tickets.” She added, “a day like today should be spent with the entire family and that can't be accomplished comfortably at the cricket. If it were the West Indies playing,” she concluded, “well then I would have probably put more serious thought into it.”
Guyana has successfully hosted its share of the Super Eight stage of the Caribbean 's largest event, Cricket World Cup 2007. The games here concluded with Ireland playing against New Zealand .
