Who is your role model? Why? We asked the man and the woman in the street this question and this is what they had to say.
Lancelot Bentinck, Teacher: 'Being a Rastafarian my role model is Haile Selassie I. I try my best to pattern my life based on his principles and standards which he set during his lifetime. Professor Aubrey Bishop who lecturers law at the University of Guyana is another role model of mine. He is the person who inspired me to further my education, to be a good citizen and to help others.'
Gary Hinds, Environ-mental Health Assistant: 'My mother is my role model. I say this because she brought me up in a single parent home and provided for me even until today. I don't have to look for someone abroad because she has been my inspiration all the time. She is someone who is close and dear to me and she is a very loving person.'
Paul Ramlochan, Super-visor: 'My role model is Janet Jagan. She is my role model because she is a woman filled with integrity who fought for Guyana. I love her way of dealing with things and she is like a mother to me. She is an exceptional woman who I really admire.'
Osee Beckles, Musician: 'My role model is my spiritual father, my pastor Timothy King. When I look at his life and the wisdom that he carries, I know that he is someone I want to be like. His teachings, his mentorship has transformed me and I admire him. I'm a musician and my other role models include Fred Hammond, Papa San.'
Leslie Rodrigues, Manager: 'My role model is my father. He passed eight years ago but his words are with me today. I admired his way of communicating with people. He had charisma and that same attitude I was able to pick up and I am outgoing. It just happened that I have been able to follow in his footsteps.'
Veronica Paul, Housewife: 'My husband is my role model. He is the closest person to me and we can communicate about anything. He treats me well and encourages me. He is the one person I can depend on and he helps with the children and he is always supportive which is why he is my role model.'
Charmaine Blackman, Singer: 'I have a number of role models. Three of them are Bob Marley, Beyonce and Bonny Alves. All of them are in the music business which I am also in and I can relate. Bonny has accomplished so many things in life; he is a producer, director and so many others. He is very good at what he does and I look at him for strength. Bob Marley was a reggae legend and Beyonce has a unique style. I admire her endurance and she is original.'
Sabrina Kazim, Public sector employee: 'My role models I believe are people who live justly and who are honest and actually try to change themselves after a bad situation. I see it in people I have to deal with every day. My role model is really a number of people. My mother and also a very good family friend. My High school teacher Miss Phillip-Neri who taught English at Richard Ishmael she was very straightforward and tried to find the best in everybody even though you may have been bad.'
Marion Smith, Private sector employee: 'My role model is the Lord Jesus Christ who through his teachings taught mankind to live the right way and be kind to others. I try my best to follow his ways and to be the person that I know he wants me to be. I don't think there is a better role model than the Lord.'
Julie Arjune, Sales Representative: 'My role model is my mother. She has always been there for me; she is a forgiving, loving and caring person. She is also very hard working and works really hard at home.
My grandmother is also my role model she is caring. My grandfather has been a father to me and they all have helped me to be a better person.
