Minutes after preparing the body of Swiss House Cambio boss, Farouk Razac for burial, Yusuff Khan died after his motorcycle suffered a blow-out at the Happy Acres turn.
Khan called `Bad Boy', 34 of Lot 13 Chateau Margot, East Coast Demerara, was on his way to the Non Pareil Masjid for noon prayers when the tragedy occurred.
Stabroek News was told that Khan had washed Razac's body for the funeral yesterday at the Queenstown Masjid. He left to go to prayers and was to return to the CIOG headquarters on Woolford Avenue for the funeral service.
While travelling to Non Pareil, the front wheel of his motorcycle suffered a blow-out causing the father of three to lose control. He was hit by a passing truck.
He was taken to the Georgetown Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. He had serious injuries to his head and others parts of his body.
Relatives said that the driver later turned himself in at the Sparendaam Police Sta-tion. However it could not be ascertained at press time whether the man was still in custody or had been released.
Yesterday at the man's home, his relatives were being consoled. Persons were gathered discussing how such a vibrant and religious person could lose his life in a flash. The family was making preparations for the wake and is making plans to bury him according to Muslim rites.
His wife, Carol Sawh told Stabroek News that her husband was the regional co-coordinator at the CIOG and was responsible for organizing Muslim activities throughout the East Coast. She said that he only took up that post mid last year. Khan was also a teacher at the Muslim school at Enmore.
The woman stated that prior to taking up the coordinator post; her husband was a supervisor at the La Bonne Intention (LBI) sugar estate.
She said that she does not know much about the accident but was told that her husband had just prepared a body for a Muslim burial. She said that this was not the first time he has done this.
According to the woman, he suffered a blow-out and was then hit by a canter truck.
Meanwhile amidst tears, his mother Pulmattie Indal said that she had dreamt that she had written her own death announcement. She said that she even told her son about it.
The woman said that yesterday morning her son fell off his motorcycle in the pathway leading to their home. He had two other falls with his motorcycle, Stabroek News was told.
With tears in her eyes the woman said that she was in her home at Success Housing Scheme when someone in a car came and told her about the accident. She said that the man told her that her son was lying on the road. When she arrived at the scene she said, there was a lot of blood on the road.
Khan's mother stated that her son was well behaved. "I never, never had to go and pull he out of a rum shop. He never even smoked a cigarette". She said that her son had been a Muslim all his life and enjoyed it as he travelled to various parts of the country and to Trinidad and Suriname to take part in religious activities.
The woman said that years ago her son was a national athlete for Guyana. He was a runner.
Khan was described as a quiet man who was always in touch with his religion.
Meanwhile, persons have once again expressed concern about the number of accidents that have occurred on the turn on the Happy Acres public road.
